The Seventh Emerging Writers' Program provides a collaborative opportunity between emerging arts writers and exhibiting artists.
Over the course of the year, each writer is paired with an exhibiting artist, and will produce a text to accompany the artist’s exhibition, based on discussions about the artist’s practice and conceptual intent. The format of the text is open to experimentation; for example, it can take the form of a catalogue essay, interview, poetry, or creative writing. The text will reflect the artist’s practice. Each text will be printed in a publication produced by Seventh Gallery, as well as published on the website. Monthly meet-up sessions involve the discussion of assigned readings, writing exercises, reading of texts in progress, and causal chats. Although a loose curriculum is set the program is malleable to participants’ desires and interests.
Writers are mentored throughout the conceptual development of their work, with critical feedback and editorial advice. The group meets monthly on Monday evenings for readings, discussions and peer mentoring.
