This text is presented alongside the exhibition Circling the plane by Eleanor Amor and Lorna Quinn as part of the Seventh Gallery Emerging Writers’ Program 2024.

The back lane heaved with familiarity

the bottle tree passed by,

leaving me to meet the wire fences and metal gates keeping

the voices and faces at arm's length

The light from the main street

had left me to fill in the blanks—

The moon was needed elsewhere that night

It hadn't seemed important
