Using humour and vulnerability, the works for the exhibition draw heavily on Kozak’s personal experiences to challenge stereotypes around what it is like to be an emerging artist (such as, romantacised notions around the mystique of the ‘artist life’) and also to challenge stereotypes around what it is like to live with a chronic illness (such as, the idea that people with chronic illness are either tragic or inspirational with no personality or complexity).
Exhibition documented by Teagan Ramsay.

Peter Kozak
Peter Kozak is a Meanjin/Brisbane based artist. Working across multiple disciplines, including video, drawing and sound, Kozak’s work explores how combining personal narratives around illness and disability with images and sound relating to everyday materials and experiences can connect them with a wider audience and help reduce their stigma.
