Seventh is a non-profit gallery run by artists, for artists, since 2000. We are a shared public space for artistic and social practice, public dialogue, and the circulation of ephemeral, non-archived forms of knowledge and work. Questions of access, difference and participation matter to us greatly. We work in solidarity with First Nations communities, in full acknowledgement that this land was stolen and that settler-colonial power persists.

Two part-time staff manage Seventh, supported and guided by a Board of artists and arts professionals. Together, we’re a friendly and supportive team who care about art, community and creating opportunities for participation.

We’re seeking up to five new Board members, including a Board Secretary, as well as expressions of interest from people who’d like to contribute as Advisors. All roles are voluntary.

We’re looking for people who care about contemporary art, artist-led practice and the communities around them, and who have time to get involved. Like most artist-run spaces, Seventh relies on volunteer energy, so Board members need to be available to contribute beyond monthly meetings.

Opportunities

Board members
Help guide Seventh’s strategic direction, governance and long-term sustainability. This is a working Board, involving monthly meetings, collective decision-making and hands-on contributions between meetings. Expect around 5–8 hours per month.

Board Secretary
As a Board member and office-bearer, the Secretary keeps Seventh’s governance organised and effective: supporting Board meetings, agendas, minutes and records, and following up key decisions and actions. This role would suit someone organised and collaborative with an interest in not-for-profit governance. Previous Board or secretarial experience is welcome but not essential. Expect around 6–10 hours per month.

Advisors
Bring specialist knowledge, experience and perspective to Seventh’s strategic and organisational development. It’s a more focused way to contribute, shaped by your expertise and what Seventh needs at any particular time. Advisors attend Board meetings only when needed for a specific discussion or project, so the time involved is lighter: around 3–5 hours per month.

Who we’re looking for
We’re particularly interested in people with experience in legal and governance matters, risk management, fundraising and philanthropy, people and culture, and advocacy. But we’re casting a wide net. If you’re enthusiastic about arts, culture and community building and keen to support Seventh, we’d love to hear from you.

How to apply
You can express interest in one or more roles. Send a short statement about yourself and your CV through this form by Sunday 15 November. Send any questions to apply@seventhgallery.org
